We’re Building Snowmen Over Here!

December 14, 2011 by Katie Filed Under: Crafts for Kids, Fine Motor Activities, Language Enrichment Activities for Parents, Therapy Ideas and Activities 3 Comments

We have been building SNOWMEN!

OK, so they haven’t been real ones but whatever. We’ll take what we can get…it doesn’t snow here in the bay! 😉

Yet again, I was inspired by an activity that was linked up at my Thrifty Thursday Linky Party. Jessica over at  Preserving Life’s Memories shared this adorable Felt Snowman Kit, and I fell in love. First of all, it’s felt. And I LOVE felt. Second? It’s super easy to make. I just cut out the pieces free hand. The best part is that you can ROLL IT UP when you are done and store it away! AWESOME!

There was this other activity that I saw linked up that I just HAD to try out. For my fellow SLPs, this would be a GREAT activity for therapy…you could even do it in January and February as it is a winter activity (not just Holiday!). I’m talking about this Build a Snowman Dice Game activity that Kristina over at Toddler Approved shared. It targets winter vocabulary, visual and fine motor skills, counting, number recognition, colors and shapes.

Because my daughter JUST turned three and isn’t yet reading number words, I did alter the game a little by writing in the numbers in, so we can work on number recognition at her level. I had also thought, that another way to simplify this activity would be to use a color die (that you can make or buy) rather than using numbers.

Make sure to visit the sites where I got the ideas for these activities as they are both awesome!

Cheers!
